What we do

Our core values and mission objectives are pursued through land acquisition (forest land) for biodiversity /biomass restoration, regeneration of degraded forests, creation of critical forest linkages connecting otherwise isolated pockets of jungle, and education of local people in conservation and encouraging sustainable livelihoods.

As an off-shoot of our core activity include:

  • Conducting scientific research  and participating in the national dialogue  on rainforests and conservation of bio-diversity
  • Partnering  or networking with other groups.
  • Conducting public education on rainforests and the need of preservation.
  • Partnering with local communities to support sustainable livelihoods in the forest areas by helping them to grow and process rainforest products and successfully market them. Typically such products are: pepper, kithul tapping, honey, and cane handicrafts, but not limited to these.

Sri Lanka has lost a massive area of our primary forests according to FAO. As stated only 9.0% ( 167,000 Hectares. ) is classified as primary forest, To make matters worse, this 9% is scattered through the country, few patches exceed 10,000 ha some patches are less than 2hectares Protecting these endangered remnants of our forests is the best we can do today. The small patches are under the greatest threat as they are often privately owned. The owners often see the forest patch as a source of timber and sell the trees.
